Artist Statement
After the birth of my son I became critically and chronically ill and was subsequently homebound and often bedridden for years. This time of pain and frustration also became a period for introspection and spiritual awakening. During times of darkness, art has been a flashlight for exploration, helping me discover meaning, beauty and purpose.
I am an encaustic painter and I use art to visually interpret things that inspire or challenge me, including philosophical writings and poetry. I express my “visual reading” in an abstract style, leaving others to see and find their own meaning in the work. I am particularly drawn to nature for my subject matter, and am in awe of the interconnectedness of every living creature's life and the ties that bind us all together.
